Human Trafficking is a global problem. In the United States, the most common form is commercial sex. Online escorts, brothels, brothels disguised as spas, and in the street, prostitutes execute this lucrative, controlling crime for their pimps and owner/s. Due to their vulnerability and easy manipulation, homeless youth are traffickers' primary targets. There is a direct correlation between homeless youth and human trafficking.

Did you know that Birmingham is the central hub in the Southeast for the second most lucrative crime in the world? A $150 billion human trafficking industry flows through Birmingham, Alabama (Birmingham Times, February 16, 2017). It flows through Birmingham because two of the busiest interstates for trafficking, I-65, and I-20, connect in Birmingham.
Human Trafficking is the second most profitable illegal activity globally, falling behind illegal drug activity (Human Rights First, Ariel Worthy, briminghamtimes.com). Traffickers use violence, threats, deception, and other manipulative tactics to trap victims in the world of trafficking every day, often targeting the most vulnerable population: homeless youth.
